Zhang, Ji張機, also known as Zhang, ZhongJing張仲景(AD 150-219), was a doctor who lived in the
Eastern Han dynasty, AD 25-220, in China. He wrote Treatise on Cold Diseases and Miscellaneous
Disorders傷寒雜病論. This treatise was later divided in two parts during the Song Dynasty:
1) Shang-Han-Lun, “Febrile Disease Caused by Cold 傷寒論”, and
2) Jin-Gui-Yao-Lue, “Synopsis of Prescriptions from the Golden Chamber金匱要略”
The Shang-Han-Lun, “Febrile Disease Caused by Cold, 傷寒論”, has been introduced in Clinical Herbology
III. In this class, we will focus on the other part of Dr. ZhangJi’s張機work - Jin-Gui-Yao-Lue, “Synopsis
of Prescriptions from the Golden Chamber金匱要略”. This book is the original source of most of the
literature in history related to internal medicine and Obstetrics/ Gynecology. Together with Shang-Han
-Lun, “Febrile Disease Caused by Cold 傷寒論”, the study of Jin-Gui-Yao-Lue, “Synopsis of
Prescriptions from the Golden Chamber金匱要略” helps make the understanding of the second major
developmental stage in TCM history complete.
This part of the work by Dr Zhang, ZhongJing is very different from ShangHanLun for this is the part discussing the miscellaneous disease under different titles. Please go to the attached file to see details of the course.
