I was surprised to know menstrual pain is considered as normal when I first came to north America.
Pain is usually sign of stagnation in traditional Chinese medicine, TCM.
Menstrual pain is because the natural energy flow in your body wasn't smooth/free.
If the pain is getting worse, it's because something aggravates the stagnation in your body.
Ask the following questions:
Did you have the menstrual pain from the first period in your life?
Was there any change regarding the pain along the way?
If there is any change in nature like this past two, when did it happened and why?
In modern medicine, we understand menstrual cycle synchronize with the hormonal changes in the body. After ovulation, the endometrium becomes thicker ready for pregnancy. When there is no pregnancy, the thick endometrium cushion the egg will collapse naturally out of the body as menstruation. The whole cycle will happens again to prepare for the potential pregnancy. When there is nothing interfere with the process, it will be smooth and pain free. If there is pain or blood clot, this is the sign to indication the flow of the energy is not smooth/free. This stagnation can be caused by anything from emotional change, stress to inappropriate food esp cold food.
When the energy flow in the body is balanced the menstrual flow is only one of the physiological process that will not cause any pain. It might not be able to prove this with our limited science now. The fact is that those who know how to use acupuncture and herb have done this numerous time to make ladies understand menstrual pain is not normal.
